2020年、我が社は過去最高益を計上しました。そのタイミングで私は、「下請けからの脱却」を掲げ、メディカル・ケミカル物流への事業変革を決断しました。しかし、事業は変えられても、組織は思うように変わらず、2024年には経営者人生最大の危機を経験しました。

その苦しい時期に出会ったのが馬場さんです。

In 2020, our company posted its highest profit ever. At that moment, I declared our break from subcontracting and decided to transform our business toward medical and chemical logistics. But while the business itself could be changed, the organization did not change as I had hoped, and in 2024 I faced the greatest crisis of my career as a business leader.

It was during that painful period that I met Baba-san.

We have asked VT Company for new-hire training across more than three cohorts, as well as training for our department heads. We can cover skills and knowledge in-house, but their training flips the motivation switch in people, and the impact on management thinking and culture building has been remarkable. There are many places to learn in the world — consulting, training, lectures, seminars, and more. But most of them share the same basic structure: an expert points out what your company, or you yourself, is lacking, and helps you fill that gap.

講演は、Vivianさんがご自身の人生を3つの章に分けて語り、馬場さんが高校生にも伝わる言葉で問いかけを交えながら進めてくださいました。

お二人のお話に引き込まれるように、高校生達の表情が少しずつ変わり、それぞれが何かを受け取り、自分自身と向き合っている様子が伝わってきました。

質疑応答では、高校生から深い質問が次々と寄せられ、とても印象的でした。

社会へ羽ばたく前の高校生にとって、進路だけでなく、自分らしい生き方を見つめる貴重な機会となりました。

We planned this lecture because we wanted to share Vivian's journey with high school students and their parents.

In the talk, Vivian shared her own life story in three chapters, while Baba-san guided the conversation with questions phrased in words that would truly reach high schoolers.

As the students were drawn into their story, we could see their expressions gradually change — each of them receiving something and facing themselves.

During the Q&A, the students asked one thoughtful question after another, which left a deep impression on us.

For high schoolers about to step out into society, it became a precious opportunity to reflect not only on their career paths, but on how to live true to themselves.

私が人事という仕事に出会えたのは、馬場さんのおかげです。約4年間、その下で人事のイロハを学ばせていただきました。

取締役でありながら、誰よりも能動的で、誰よりも大胆。外部のコンサルタントとしてではなく、経営の当事者として組織と人に向き合ってこられた方です。だからこそ、綺麗事では終わりません。相手の本音が出るまで、決して引き下がらない。当時は必死についていくだけでしたが、あの4年間で私に残ったのは知識ではなく「考え続ける姿勢」だったと、今になって分かります。

人事の責任者として数多くの研修に触れてきましたが、人を内側から変える力を持った方を、私は他に知りません。組織を本気で変えたいと考える経営者の方にこそ、一度お話をしてみてほしいと思います。

Baba-san is the reason I found my calling in HR. Over about four years working under him, I learned the fundamentals of human resources from the ground up.

Though he was a board director, he was more proactive and bolder than anyone. He never engaged with organizations and people as an outside consultant — he faced them as someone with real ownership in the business. That is exactly why he never settled for nice words; he would not back down until he drew out what people truly felt. At the time I could only struggle to keep up, but looking back now, what those four years left me with was not knowledge — it was the habit of never stopping to think.

After he stepped down, I asked him to run our new-hire training. He kept posing questions with no fixed answer, pushing people to think it through in whatever form they could. It is not something that lands right away — in fact, most of it makes little sense in the moment. What it gives you comes years later, the instant you find yourself in that same position and think, "so this is what he meant." I experienced exactly that myself.

As someone who has overseen HR and been through countless training programs, I know of no one else with the power to change a person from the inside out. I truly hope any leader who is serious about transforming their organization will take the chance to speak with him once.

Taking Baba-san's training makes you realize that you haven't been putting your own thoughts into words clearly. When he puts them into concrete language for you, you finally recognize, "yes, that's exactly what I was thinking." From there, your awareness grows — you start to put your own thoughts into words and turn them into action.

Vivian is a wonderful educator who combines deep consideration for others with a firm sense of her own convictions. As a supporter of our university's athletic association, she has given us tremendous language support, and her dedication truly shows.

私のゼミでは、大学3年生・4年生を対象に、馬場さんに研修をお願いしています。大学生の中には、十分な長所や可能性を持ちながらも、自分に自信を持てず、「自分の強みが分からない」と感じている学生が少なくありません。馬場さんのコーチングで特に素晴らしいと感じるのは、学生に答えを与えるのではなく、対話を通して本人の中にある強みや可能性を引き出していく点です。研修を終える頃には、自分自身を少し違った角度から見つめ、「自分にもできることがある」と表情が変わる学生もいます。

In my seminar, I ask Baba-san to run training for our third- and fourth-year students. Many university students possess real strengths and potential, yet lack confidence in themselves and feel they don't know what their own strengths are. What I find especially wonderful about Baba-san's coaching is that, rather than handing students answers, he draws out the strengths and potential already within them through dialogue. By the end of the training, some students come to see themselves from a slightly different angle, and their expressions change as they come to feel, "there are things I can do too."

Self-affirmation cannot be nurtured through praise alone. Students must notice it themselves and recognize their own worth in their own words. Even from the standpoint of someone involved in university education, I am impressed by how naturally Baba-san's technique brings about that process.

I myself also receive language coaching from Vivian-san, also of VT Company. Rather than lessons focused simply on building conversational fluency, she skillfully expands each conversation across a range of topics, so the time becomes one where learning a language also sparks genuine intellectual curiosity. I feel that drawing out the ability to think through the simple act of speaking is a charm unique to VT Company.

For students, it is a chance to discover their own strengths and to believe in themselves, if only a little. For me, it is the joy of learning and a fresh perspective. When people hear "vocational training school," they tend to picture PC skills and business manners. Those are, of course, very important skills for finding work.

But our center places importance on more than that. In vocational training for people with visual impairments, we focus on nurturing autonomy and the ability to express oneself. In our training, participants build the habit of thinking for themselves and practice, again and again, conveying those thoughts in their own words. Carefully developing this power to think independently and speak in one's own words is a defining strength of our center.

Alongside the acquisition of technical skills, we put real effort into cultivating practical communication skills with an eye to life after employment, steadily helping people build the foundation to work with confidence in society.
